What makes a tower flat different
Almost everything about a high-floor apartment works against a conventional blind, and none of it is obvious from a product page.
The glass is the wall
Full-height glazing means there is frequently no reveal at all: nothing to recess into and sometimes nothing solid above to fix to. The blind goes onto the ceiling line, onto a bulkhead or onto the window frame. This is the single most important thing we establish at the measure, and it is the reason we will not quote a Canary Wharf flat from a photograph.
Solar gain at height is severe
There is nothing between you and the sun: no neighbouring roofline, no tree. A west-facing flat above the twentieth floor takes direct low sun for hours in summer. A reflective solar fabric is the correct answer: it turns much of that energy away before it enters, and you keep the river and skyline that the flat exists for.
Privacy works in reverse after dark
A sunscreen fabric gives daytime privacy and reverses at night with the lights on, which in a tower, overlooked by other towers, matters more than it does in a house. For a living room used in the evening, plan for two layers: sunscreen for the day, blackout or a day and night blind for the evening.
The lease usually governs the answer
Managed blocks commonly restrict fixings and sometimes specify what the building looks like from outside. A neutral backing satisfies a uniform-appearance clause while you choose freely on the room side, and we will show you where each bracket would go so you can check it against the fixings clause. Neither limits what you can have inside.
Practicalities in a managed tower
Before we visit
Tell us the building, the floor, whether there is a goods lift to book and how visitor access works. Concierge buildings often need us on a list, and that is easier to arrange in advance than at the door.
On the day
Fitting is normally a single appointment rather than several visits. We bring our own access equipment, protect floors, and take all the packaging away with us.
If you are letting the flat, say so at the quote stage. For rentals we specify a wipeable fabric and a robust mechanism rather than a delicate finish: it survives tenancies better and costs less over the life of the let.

How it works

- You get a written quote. Itemised by window, with fitting included.
- The blinds are made to your sizes. We agree a fitting date with you.
- We fit them and clear up. Child safety devices fitted to BS EN 13120 where a chain is used.

Yes. The blind is fixed to the ceiling line, a bulkhead or the frame itself. Which of those applies depends on what is above the glass, which is exactly what we check on site.

A reflective solar fabric, and the lighter the better for heat specifically. At height with no shading from other buildings, this makes a substantial difference: more than any other blind choice available to you.
Yes. Sunscreen fabric gives privacy by day and reverses after dark with the lights on. In a tower overlooked by other towers that is worth planning for, either a day and night blind, or a second blackout blind on the same window.
No. Measuring and quoting are free across E14 with no obligation, and travel is not passed on to you.
Yes, battery tube motors charge by USB and need no electrical work, which is why they suit finished apartments. For a run of tall windows they are worth it; for one bedroom window a chain is fine and we will say so.
